Summer Reading Program Showcase

Posted in Gigs on December 22, 2008 by bobcomeans

I have recently been invited to showcase for the Public Library Summer Reading program for 2009. What that means is this… I have ten minutes to “audition” in front of 90 library program directors who can then hire you on the spot.

You then get to put on your program for their library, and a bunch of kids, this summer. I will be presenting an Interactive Caricature Drawing show that compliments the summer theme of Be Creative @ Your Library.

This is a wonderful opportunity to share the visual arts with the community, and all the kids involved in the program statewide. I’m thrilled to get a chance to participate. Break a leg!

Spent the afternoon on this beautiful campus drawing students in the graduate program. A great party catered by Tracy, inflatables for the kids, caricatures for everyone, and your favorite adult beverages.

Cyndra of Balloons by Design decorated my tent to the hilt. She is incredible with her balloon designs. Thanks Cyndra!

Lots of good, friendly people who are working hard to further their educations.

Arrow Exterminators

Spent Saturday at Brooks Lake http://www.brookslake.net/ which is just east of Atlanta. A great venue for this corporate event. Burgess Amusements supplied the tattoos and the inflatables for about 150 Arrow employees on this hot afternoon. I listened to the music and smelled the ribs as I sat at a picnic table in the shade and drew these fine folks, some more than once! Thanks Anne for fixing me up!

Spent Wednesday afternoon in Carrollton drawing for an incoming student party put on by the school. Lots of kids just getting used to the campus and college life. It was a great event with music, food, airbrush artist, food, information, food, activities, food, inflatables, food, and me drawing as fast as I could. Oh, did I say there was food?

Soilder and Family Appreciation Day.

What a great night for our military and their families! I drew non-stop for four hours! I was drawing fast, two minutes or less, trying to get to everyone. These are some young families in our armed forces. Young moms, young soilders, children, and infants. More than once I heard from a young mother with children, “Let’s send this to Daddy in Iraq.”

I got multiple thanks for being there for our soilders and all I was doing was drawing! One woman was in tears as I handed her the drawing of her and her daughter, and I was starting to choke up a little myself.

There were thousands of folks at this event. Everything was free with some great door prizes included. Grills, laptops, big screens, a Harley motorcycle, and a GMC truck!

Eve 6, Kimberely Locke, and Miranda Lambert were belting out the tunes from the stage. Nothing like drawing to the beat of some great tunes!

Pam and Samantha from Starwalk Fun, sign me up for this one for next year.  It was an honor to be there and a great time too!

Newnan Utilities Company Picnic

Drew caricatures at a lovely little park in Newnan this afternoon. Inflatables, pony rides, ice cream, great bbq, airbrush tattoos, and 200 of our favorite people from Newnan Utilities.

I set up beside Samantha, of Starwalk Fun,  who was doing airbrush tattoos of all of the kids and most of the adults.

I almost got one myself!

Community Christian Church

Email to campus pastor after drawing caricatures for the church easter egg hunt and family day…

Bill,

…Did maybe 45 drawings today. That’s 45 pictures hanging in houses with the church’s contact information. I was drawing a woman today who is in a transplant rejection. Something I know about because of Connor’s transplant. When she told me I just stopped and really asked her what was going on. She kept saying pray for me. Finally I just took her hand and prayed with her while we were sitting there at my easel. I wasn’t there to draw pictures today, I was there to spend five minutes with a stranger.

Great job Bob.  Your right, this is a great testimony to everyones efforts.  Thanks.
